After graduating in 2012 as a surgical tech I'm paying off my 18,000 student loan by working in a transportation office. I graduated and passed my NCCT test. No one will hire me since they need 2-3 years of experience. Externship is not counted. AND star career has not sign my critical skills form...You guys need this sign in order of NCCT can mail your certification to you!!! Imagine... i did my part. I Graduated, Pass my test, completed my externship and this school can't sign this form? This is a joke. Not only that, but please explain why they are always changing their instructors and career services workers? Think about this. This is a real person, a real student. Please be informed about this school well before going.

This school lied to my daughter about the cosmetology class. She was told that she focus on make up and not have to worry about hair cutting. They lied. I was harassed by there collection agency and even when I paid them they did not pay back the federal loan. they are cheats and liars I would tell everyone to avoid this so called school. They are misleading are deceitful. They are not to be trusted at all. And now I have to pay back a loan to a school that did my daughter no good what so ever so mad.

Star Career Academy - Phlebotomy Training Program Review from Stafford Township, New Jersey

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This school is a joke. The teachers and rest of the faculty are so unprofessional. The teacher I had spent half the time trying to convince us to be vegan and the rest of the time putting pointless movies on. She taught us maybe 2 months out of the full 9 we were there. I have yet been able to get a job after 6 months of graduating. The person who try's and helps you get jobs is useless and or sets you up with the most unprofessional business's. I'm just recently trying to get my Phlembotmy certification after I got my Dialysis certification months ago. The school has not helped me what so ever with registration and now I have to pay to reschedule the test because the school took so long to get back to me on when to take it. It's a pathetic place. I thought I was starting a new career path and I completely regret going there.

They aren't teachers, they are just other surgical techs.

I also went to the brick campus for Surg tech and was in a verbal dispute with my teacher. I have NEVER been in an argument with a teacher as I am always respectful. However, my teacher said she come early before class to help me out and she never showed up. I waited for over an hour and when class started she was late. I told her I was upset with her as my family was there too to watch what I was doing in school and she said it was not her job nor was she getting paid to help me out before 6pm (night class). I still maintained a perfect attendance and grades but pretty much checked out of listening to my teacher. She started working at a one campus and got fired there anyways. Karma.

Employee ashamed of Star Career Academy

As a former employee, I can say that Star is filling up some programs knowing there aren't any jobs because they know they have to stop teaching them after so many years of not meeting placement requirements. So they are grabbing all the money they can. They don't care about students, only profit. Go to their website and look at the "consumer info" at the bottom. Rarely do students finish on-time and less than 70% get jobs even related to their program much less actually doing what they trained for. I had to leave, I just couldn't keep watching them lie to the government and steal from students.

Graduating on time and getting a job is the responsibility of the student. The performance or lack of determines when they graduate and if their extern hires them. Not financial.

Simply speechless......

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Firstly, lets begin with the faculty in itself. For a school that charged me $20 000 for a course, I would expect to have it be updated, especially with medical equipment and labs. The bathrooms were beyond disgusting. There was never toilet paper, paper towels, and soap in the soap dispencers. I have never felt like I had to hold my urine for as long as I did when I attended the Audobon campus. The walls looked like they haven't been painted in years (ie. when the campus opened). The floors in the medical labs (where students dealt with patients and blood ) were absolutely disgusting. They kept saying that they had people come in the evenings to clean.... but lets just leave that as they said.... Secondly, Our teacher had no idea what she was talking about. She never stayed on topic, and her teaching was based on giving us answers without explanation. She kept saying that she would come back to certain topics but never did. She supposedly had 20+ years of experience in the field, but I have never in my 27 years of living had to explain things to a instructor instead of vice versa. Her lack of professionalism was simply uncanning. She kept talking about her personal life, and could hardly answer a question without looking up the answer in her textbook. I spent 2.5 days at star career academy in Audobon, PA, in the dialysis technician program and I can honestly say that it was a complete waste of time and brain power. Not only couldn't she pronounce the medical terminology, but we had to correct her on every ...oh and I mean every medical term, including definitions. Her excuse was that it was new text book....but since when did medical terminology change in a number of months. She had no idea what the textbook entailed and failed miserably at conducting a structured lesson for class. Out of the 6 students in the program, 3 of us withdrew after just 2 days. I felt personally that I was better off studying by myself or spending 3 years in an ACCREDITED institution. I HONESTLY HAVE NO IDEA HOW THEY SELECT FACULTY FOR THE PROGRAMS AT STAR CAREER...IN OUR CASE OUR INSTRUCTOR INHERTITED THE POSITION LIKE IT WAS A TRUST FUND. IF YOU GO ON THE WEBSITE FOR STAR CAREER ACADEMY AUDOBON CAMPUS YOU WILL FIND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ...AND I MEAN NOTHING ON THE FACULTY INCLUDING THE DIRECTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY HAVE ALL THESE MEDICAL PROGRAMS AT THE SCHOOL ...BUT THE ONLY CPR QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR WAS THE DIALYSIS TECH INSTRUCTOR. THIS MEANS THAT FOR THE OTHER PROGRAMS LIKE THE MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM THE ONLY INSTRUCTOR QUILIFIED TO TEACH THEM CPR WAS OUR INSTRUCTOR. THIS MEANT TAKING TIME OUT OF HER OTHER CLASS TIMES, TO TEACH CPR!!!! SINCE WEHN IS IT OK FOR AN INSTRUCTOR TO BE TEACHING IN THE MEDICAL FIELD..WHEN THEY ARE NOT CPR QUILIFIED? YOU CANT EVEN TAKE A MEDICAL COURSE AT AN ACCREDITED INSTUTION WITHOUT CPR QUALIFICATION. Thirdly, lets talk about the director of the school at the STAR CAREER AUDOBON PA CAMPUS. WHEN I WENT TO HIM WITH MY CONCERNS ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND SAYING THAT I PLAN TO LEAVE AFTER THAT SECOND DAY, HE SHOWED ABSOLUTELY NO CARE WHAT-SO-EVER. HE BASICALLY CUT ME OFF AND DISMISSED THE ENTIRE SITUATION BY SAYING, "YOU DONT EVEN NEED TO TELL ME ALL OF THIS, I CAN JUST SIGN A PAPER FOR YOU RIGHT NOW AND GET YOU OUT OF HERE." THE WHOLE TIME, HE WAS STANDING THERE WITH HIS ARMS CROSSED, SEEMINGLY MAD ABOUT MY CONCERNS. AS A DIRECTOR OF THE SCHOOL, YOU WOULD THINK THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO HEAR THE CONCERNS OF THE STUDENTS IN ORDER TO BETTER YOUR INSTUTION. INSTEAD THERE WAS A LACK OF CARE, APPRECIATION, AND PROFESSIONALISM FROM HIM. AT THAT MOMENT I EXPECTED SOME REASSURANCE FROM HIM THAT I WAS JUMPING THE GUN ON MY DECISION TO LEAVE. I EXPECTED HIM SIT DOWN WITH ME AND WORK WITH ME ON THE CHANGES THAT COULD BE MADE TO ACCOMPANY ME, AND I GOT NOTHING. AFTER HAVING A CONFIDENTIAL DICUSSION WITH HIM, ERIC THE DIRECTOR, HE WENT TO EVERY FACULTY MEMBER INCLUDING THE RECEPTIONIST AND DISCUSSED THE DETAILS OF OUR CONVERSATION IN LESS THAN 5 MINS. WHICH LED TO THE DIRTY LOOKS AND DISRESPECT FROM FACULTY AND STAFF FOR THE REMAINER OF THE DAY THAT I STAYED. WHEN ALL THREE OF US WENT IN TO WITHDRAW, ALL HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT WAS THAT WE RETURNED THE TEXTBOOKS, AND OR ANY OTHER SUPPLIES FROM THE PROGRAM. HE FAILED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT I WAS A VITAL INSTRUMENT FOR THE SCHOOL. TO HIM I WAS SIMPLY JUST ANOTHER NUMBER... ANOTHER TUITION THAT WAS NOT GOING TO BE PAID. I HAVE NEVER FELT SO DISRESPECTED AND DISMISSED, IN MY LIFE. HE HAD NO INTEREST IN MY EXPLANATION FOR WANTING TO WITHDRAW FROM THE PROGRAM. INSTEAD HE RUSHED TO MY INSTRUCTOR AND TOLD HER THAT 3 OF HER 6 STUDENTS WERE WITHDRAWING.... WHAT HAPPENED TO CONFIDENTIALITY? WHAT HAPPENED TO GIVING A STUDENT TIME TO TALK TO HIS OR HER INSTRUCTOR AND EXPLAIN WITHIN IN REASON? THIS COMING FROM AN INSTITUTE THAT WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME $20 000 FOR AN EDUCATION.... I CAN SIMPLY PUT IT IN THIS ONE SENTENCE...." JOINING STAR CAREER ACADEMY WAS THE WORST DECISION IVE MADE IN MY LIFE, WITHDRAWING JUST AFTER 2.5 DAYS WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER!!!!!!!" SO TO ALL OF YOU THAT ARE THINKING OF ATTENDING THIS INSTITUTION.....THINK AGAIN!!!!!!! IT IS NOT ONLY A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY... BUT A DISCRACE TO STUDENT INSTRUCTOR RELATIONSHIPS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! WHEN YOU HEAR ME ON THE NEWS OR SEE MY FACE..... ITS BECUASE I WILL MAKE IT MY MISSION TO EXPOSE THIS PLACE FOR WHAT IT IS.....A SHAME....

This is also going on in the Brick campus....I'm so disappointed in this school. I'm currently attending for dialysis tech.

Not one dialyzer is working....my teacher gave her 6 weeks notice...this weeks her last week and they haven't found a replacement. The teachers aren't trained to teach classes...only certified in the profession that they teach.Everything is very unprofessional. The school is filthy...I can go on and on.

I would like to get my money back. I feel like I've wasted 7months and I have another 7to go

Linda is my financial aid, she is wonderful. If you maintain good grades you don't have to pay anything.

The instructors are great too.

If your there to learn, do not cause problems, and put forth an effort you do well. Every instructor I've had has always given me good guidance, helped whenever and have been there for me personally.

The only way you have to pay is 1. You do not maintain a grade point average required which I believe is a C 2.

Your financial aid, scholership, loans were less then the tuition. In this case you are aware of this day one.

Of course if you owe money they week not let you walk away with a diploma which was not fully paid for. That is like going to the store getting a gallon of milk for $5.

You give the cashier $2 and expect to be able to walk out of the store.

I have maintained an A my entire time here, never had to pay out of pocket aND when I received a letter from my loan company asking for payment, financial aid immediately helped me, called the loan company and worked everything out for me. As long as you give 100%, have a good, positive attitude, do what your supposed to do, attend class regularly (have good attendance) everyone will help you out. But you can not expect someone to help if your not willing to help yourself.

All the instructors are amazing, professional, helpful, respectful and knowledgeable.

I would defiantly enroll again. Great experience.

Guest

You are not asked for money unless your grades dropped below financial aid requirements. As a 4.0 student I was never asked to pay anything other then the $25 for the cap and gown which we were given 2 1/2 months notice.

Not true i was ask to pay once my loans came back that all of it wasn't going cover.I maintain a good grade level but it was not nothing less then a B.Furthermore Graduation was done at the last min.I Received my letter three days before the money was due..And i was attending the school when graduation was setup. So this statement is a bunch of ***.

Guest

Given the grammar and composition of your complaint not only makes it appear suspect but no A/B student I know would ever publicly compose a review as poorly written as yours is. I think the problem may be in the mirror....

Spell check is a wonderful tool if your weak on grammar and punctuation... Try it.

I was a student at the campus on Welsh & the blvd it is was the worse I went all the way from mod 101 to mod 114 then I feld 114 I was supposed to start the next 114 class and never got called when the class started back up so I called to find out what the problem was and I was told that the class was full and that the next class would start in February then I see on the news that the school had closed down now I'm stuck with a loan ,no certificate ,my transcript doesn't transfer over to any other school and no one to tell me what their doing about this situation .So the best thing to do is talk to a Lawyer because I'm not paying for something that I don't have.

Guest

Mr. Jason is great as well as many of the other instructors.

I found nothing but respectful, helpful and knowledgeable people here.

Some of the students do not take the program seriously and do not get out of the program what is offered. If they do not put their all into their education how can anyone expect another person to put their all into them?

Guest

Dialysis is more then 9 months. Did you not finish??

All of my teachers have been great, understanding, and very respectful.

As long at your there to do what you need to do, act like and adult, do your best there week be no problems. I carry a 4.0 and have had the best experience.
